The morning of the fourth day : a novel
Published in Unknown Binding by W.E. Bean ()
Average review score:

The Morning of the Fourth Day - a novelThis book has 1 main character, Will Dean, and three secondary level characters that change his life forever. It is a suspenseful story of an attorney brought up on 1st degree murder charges and only he really knows that the killing was in self-defense. This book is not of the courtroom genre but looks at the effects the legal system has on a number of people. The book raises interesting thoughts on the death sentence and even hints at a theory of the JFK assassination. I found the book easy to read, very suspenseful and yet I felt I got to know Will and his family personally. Some of the violence is graphic but is not superfluous to the story. I would highly recommend the book to anyone who loves a good, thought provoking read.

Average review score:

Well worth the price of admission! If you like historical novels and also enjoy a good murder mystery, then this is a must read! You will be transcended back in time to the days of the pilgrims with lives complicated by far more modern problems. This interesting blend coupled with the author's wonderfully descriptive writing style makes the book come to life. The ending was a real surprise. Suggest that you reread the first chapter at the end to see just how intricately this tale was spun!

Charming, ghostly romance/mystery--Brava, Joan Smith!Sharp writing, clear and lovable characters.
From back cover:
Romance writer Belle Savage came to England looking for a hero--the kind of rakish stranger women have been dreaming of for centuries. She meets him in the misty darkness of a velvet night, a devilish charmer, perfect in every way. Except he is a ghost.
Soon Belle becomes drawn into the tragic past of a young Arabella Comstock, murdered in a fit of passion, whose spirit now roams the meadows of Chene Mow. But as the mystery of Arabella unfolds, so do Belle's own passions for her spectral suitor, Lord Raventhorpe.

New Women of the New South: The Leaders of the Woman Suffrage Movement in the Southern States
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (June, 1993)
Average review score:

a great addition to our knowledge of women's suffrageA wonderful addition to the historiography on the woman suffrage movement. Wheeler provides a jumpstart to examining the specifics of the woman suffrage movement in the South. While she admittedly focuses on 11 specific leaders, her study incorporates a much broader scope as she takes us on a journey to explore the specifically Southern nature of the arguments for women's votes in the early 20th century. A great read!

The Non-Toxic Farming Handbook
Published in Paperback by Acres USA (October, 1998)
Average review score:

EXTREMELY INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE! - THOUGHT PROVOKINGThis book discusses how many current land management principles have created an imbalance in the soil, creating more problems than we realize. The authors discuss how we can use natural resources to deal with or eliminate soil erosion, and the need for herbicides and insecticides. The book explains how our soil is a living organism, and requires a good balance of nutrients to allow for proper energy transfer between nutrients, soil, and plants. The points that are brought up are very thought provoking; things that we often overlook. One such point is that weeds and insects are not so much pests, but indicators of soil and plant life. Being a cash crop farmer, wanting to know how to restore our depleted farmland, and get away from "toxic" chemicals and fertilizers, this book has been a great teacher, and no doubt will be referenced in the future.
